Having two separate locations approximately 20 miles apart our client wanted to integrate its operations into a single site. To achieve this the required additional storage and office space had to be created within the general warehouse facility of the chosen site utilising its available headroom.
In partnership with Davicon, we undertook a feasibility study (including floor loading tests in accordance with building regulations) to ensure that the desired space could be created as needed.
Our proposals were accepted and we subsequently installed two mezzanine floors. The first floor served the Company’s storage needs incorporating general picking activities, with the free space below it transformed with narrow aisle bulk pallet racking to maximise storage capacity. To achieve this we designed the mezzanine columns to fall within the gap between the pallet racking to minimise dead space. This floor was one hour fire rated, included up and over safety gates at each end of the 4 staircases, and had both powered and gravity conveyor systems.
The second mezzanine floor provided 700m2 of office accommodation accessed by both ambulant and standard staircases and a disabled lift as required by DDA legislation. The accommodation comprised open plan office space as well as a showroom, departmental offices (inc. IT, Finance, Sales and Graphics), boardroom and washroom facilities.
